What we learned on our skincare journey

What we learned on our skincare journey

If there is one thing we learned during the dumpster fire that was 2020 is skincare is self-care. Daily routines kept us (relatively) sane, and after a year we all just had, that is no small feat. It might be for vanity or mental health. Or you just like the soothing ritual of your morning and evening routine. Whatever the reason, don't let anyone make you feel bad about taking care of your skin. Over the years, these are some of the things we learned on our skincare journey.

  • It's ok to get your skincare nerd on and absorb as much information as possible, be it from skincare legends, your IG or YT favourites, or random Reddit threads. But at some point, you'll figure out what works and doesn't work for your skin. Then it's time to march to the beat of your own drum. As with everything skincare YMMV (Your Mileage Might Vary).

  • Retinol is a skincare MVP for a reason. It can tackle just about any skincare concern - from breakouts to hyperpigmentation. And let's not forget, it ensures we won't resemble a weathered handbag in our old age.

  • We don't need a super high percentage of vitamin C to see the results. Even 5 or 10% vitamin C with consistent use does make a difference. Mind you, the results aren't obvious overnight, but they are definitely visible.

  • Amy's skin responds well to daily exfoliation. Mine, on the other hand, can only tolerate chemical exfoliation once or twice per week.

  • When it comes to actives, less is more. This applies to percentages in the formula and the frequency of application.

  • There is a facial oil for everyone. Look no further than our Amy, whose skin is combination and sensitive. She keeps all of our three oils in her skincare rotation.

  • Fragrance has become one of the most debated topics in the skincare community. While we might take some flak for it, but shoot us - we love a product that gives us a sensorial experience, and that means some fragrance. Not loads mind, there is nothing worse than a scent that lingers on and on... and on.
  • It pays to patch test. It is easy to understand the lure of a new product, but an allergic reaction just isn't worth it.

What are some of the things you learned on your skincare journey? Please do share.
